An Overview of Our Veterans Program

We are proud to offer a women's veterans track to provide services for PTSD, military sexual trauma, depression, readjustment, and substance abuse disorders. Our team of licensed professionals are all dedicated to helping change our women Veterans’ stories, by doing so one step at a time. At Casa Serena, we provide treatment through TRM and other evidence-based treatment modalities, as well as community building through the Social Model of Care. Our program measures client outcomes at regular intervals, which are utilized to inform individualized treatment planning. Case Management services are an additional component of our treatment model and include identifying and connecting with appropriate resources (for Veteran-specific services this would be through the VA and other organizations, such as the Military Sisterhood Initiative) to address employment; educational, medical, housing and community support needs; and to help women establish a joyous and purposeful life. We also recognize that recovery is a process and doesn’t stop when the treatment episode is over, so successful graduates of our program and their families are welcomed into our Lifetime Aftercare Program, which consists of a weekly alumni group, weekly multi-family group, and any of our evening IOP days. These groups are designed to keep former clients and families connected, receive guidance during trying times, celebrate milestones, and offer support. This is provided at no cost to the alumni and their family. We understand that women are the fastest growing Veteran group, and that number will only continue to rise through the coming years. We consider it an honor and privilege to be a part of improving the well-being of our women Veterans by offering specific services to accommodate their particular needs that are unlike most women. Casa Serena is there for them now, and in the future, in sisterhood.

For Women By Women

Casa Serena is a Women's Veteran Drug and Alcohol Rehab Center in Santa Barbara

Women veterans have unique needs when it comes to addiction treatment. They often suffer from mental health issues, which can contribute to their addiction, may feel marginalized or unsupported by their peers, and are often hesitant to seek treatment services. Unfortunately, there are not many rehab centers that cater specifically to women veterans. However, at Casa Serena we have treated several women veterans and have witnessed the need for a separate Women Veteran Track to address the specific needs of the women who have so bravely served our country.

Are Female Veterans More Prone to Addiction and Mental Health Issues?

Many factors can contribute to addiction in women veterans. PTSD is a significant factor, as it can lead to alcohol or drug abuse and other mental health issues.

In addition, women veterans often face unique challenges when they return to civilian life. They may feel isolated or unsupported by family and friends, making it difficult to cope with stress and trauma.

Additionally, women veterans may have difficulty accessing quality healthcare, making it difficult to get the help they need for addiction or mental health issues.

Education About Veterans and Addiction

Why Do Female Veterans Abuse Drugs?

There are many reasons why women veterans may abuse drugs. Some do it to self-medicate for PTSD or other mental health issues. Others may abuse drugs to cope with the stress of civilian life. Still, others may turn to drugs because they feel isolated and alone.  Whatever the reason, it is essential for women veterans to get the help they need to overcome their addiction.

Types of Care for Veterans Needing Addiction Treatment

Residential or Inpatient Drug and Alcohol Rehab

The most popular type of program is inpatient treatment, which involves staying at a residential facility for 30 days or more.

During this time, you will receive around-the-clock care from a team of medical professionals. A women’s residential drug rehab center is often the most effective treatment, as it allows you to focus on your recovery without distractions.

Outpatient Drug and Alcohol Rehab

Outpatient treatment allows you to live at home while receiving treatment. This type of treatment is often less expensive than inpatient treatment. While this approach to treatment is less intensive, it may be suitable for those with mild substance abuse issues and those who do not require detox before treatment.

A women’s outpatient program can also be effective as an opportunity for continuing care after a residential program ends.

Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)

Partial hospitalization (PHP) is an outpatient treatment that is more intensive than traditional outpatient treatment.

During a PHP, you will receive care during the day but can return home at night.

Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)

An intensive outpatient program (IOP) is similar to a PHP, but you will only receive care 3-5 days per week. Typically, this program is recommended for people who have successfully completed an inpatient or PHP program.

Family Therapy

With family therapy, all members of your family are involved in the counseling process. This type of therapy can help heal the relationships damaged by addiction.

Support Groups

Support groups are an excellent way for female veterans to form connections with other women veterans struggling with addiction. These groups provide emotional support and can be a valuable part of your recovery.

12-step programs, such as Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), can be a helpful part of your recovery. These programs emphasize the importance of admitting that you have a problem and taking steps to improve your life.

Choosing the Right Treatment Program

Before selecting a Santa Barbara veterans rehab center, check with your insurance carrier to determine which health services your insurance cover. When selecting a treatment program, it is crucial to consider your unique needs and circumstances.

You should also consult with a medical professional to get their recommendation. Some factors to consider when choosing a treatment program include the following:

  • The severity of your addiction
  • Your mental and physical health
  • Your financial situation
  • Your personal preferences

It is also essential to ensure that the treatment program you choose offers evidence-based care.

This means that the program uses treatment methods that have been proven to be effective in scientific studies.

Finally, be sure the treatment center you select is accredited by a legitimate governing body such as the Joint Commission.

These governing bodies ensure treatment centers meet high standards for safety and quality.
